Ole Miss (42-23) tops final 2022 NCBWA Poll

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 25th year with its 2022 weekly surveys. NCAA champ Ole Miss wears the crown in this season-ending survey. This was the first NCAA diamond crown for the Rebels as they downed No. 2 Oklahoma 4-2 in the June 26 finals. Neither of the top two NCAA finishers was among the Top 16 seeds in the NCAA tourney draw, though UM began the season at 13-2 and was ranked No. 2 in four different NCBWA regular-season polls.

North Greenville (54-10) tops final Division II Poll

National champion North Greenville raked in all 19 available first-place votes to cement itself atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 final poll that was released on Friday afternoon by the organization.

Texas State's Stivors tabbed 2022 NCBWA Stopper of the Year

Texas State’s Tristan Stivors was named the 2022 Stopper of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Friday, becoming the first player from the Sun Belt to win the honor since the award’s inception in 2005. Stivors, a right-handed pitcher from Castroville, Texas, boasted a 7-1 record with a nation-leading 18 saves. He allowed just 18 runs, 15 earned, in 61 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .210 batting average. The senior allowed multiple runs in just four of his 32 appearances. 

NCBWA announces 2022 Mike Martin National Coach of the Year

After leading Notre Dame back to the NCAA College World Series for the first time since 2002, head coach Link Jarrett has been named the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Mike Martin National Coach of the Year.Jarrett led the Irish to their first 40-win mark since 2006 and back to Omaha for the third time in program history. Jarrett is one of two coaches (Mike Bianco, OIe Miss) in the eight-team field to reach the College World Series as a player and coach after going three times as a player at Florida State.

Texas' Melendez captures 35th Dick Howser Trophy

Texas first baseman Ivan Melendez, the Longhorns’ all-time seasonal home run leader and Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, is the 35th recipient of the 2022 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound redshirt junior from El Paso (Texas) Coronado High School, also is the fourth Longhorn (five times) to nab this national honor since 1992. The El Paso resident also is first in NCAA Division I runs-batted-in with 94, first in slugging percentage at .886, first in total bases with 209, fourth in on-base percentage at .518, 13th in runs with 75, 12th in total hits with 94, and 14th in batting average at .396.

NCBWA announces 2022 All-America Team

After two rounds of voting by the organization, 78 baseball student-athletes comprise the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s 23rd Annual All-America first, second and third teams, as announced on Wednesday. Twenty-three different conferences and 14 conference championships teams are represented. The three All-America squads are also made up of 13 conference players or co-players of the year, 11 conference pitchers of the year winners and one relief pitcher of the year.

N.C. State's White, Tennessee's Burns are National Freshman Players of the Year

DALLAS (NCBWA) – North Carolina State University infielder/designated hitter Tommy White and Tennessee right-hander Chase Burns have been named the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Freshman Hitter and Pitcher of the Year recipients, as announced by the organization today.

NCBWA announces 2022 Freshman All-America Team

A total of 34 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced today. The 2022 NCBWA Freshman All-America Team features players from 29 different schools and 13 different conferences.

NCBWA names 2022 Division I District Players of the Year

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its District Players of the Year for all nine districts for the 2022 season.

Five finalists named for 2022 Dick Howser Trophy

Five future 2022 consensus All-America selections who led their respective schools this spring are finalists for the 35th Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear in balloting by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in conjunction with the Dick Howser Trophy Committee and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Oregon State starting pitcher Cooper Hjerpe, Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb, Texas first baseman Ivan Melendez, Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada and Clemson third baseman Max Wagner are the five finalists for the prestigious Howser Trophy.

NCBWA unveils 2022 Stopper of the Year Finalists

Ten relievers have been named finliasts for the 17th NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Four hail from the Southeastern Conference, while the other six are from the American Athletic, Atlantic Coast, ASUN, Colonial, Southern and Sun Belt. Eight of the 10 finalists received all-conference accolades. Charleston’s William Privette (3-1, 0.91 ERA and 12 saves) and East Carolina’s Carter Spivey (8-0, 2.43, 5 saves) were named pitcher of the year from their respective conference. 

Tennessee (56-7) tops NCBWA Division I Poll

Tennessee is No. 1 for the ninth time in the last 10 weeks with a nation-leading 56 victories. The Volunteers of 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin Coach of the Year Tony Vitello are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship and will host the Knoxville Super Regional against Notre Dame of the ACC. Oregon State, the Vols, Texas and Vanderbilt have held the No. 1 position in 16 NCBWA surveys to date. All eight NCAA Super Regional hosts are among the Top 15 in this week’s poll.

Stanford's Jones, Long Beach State's Watts-Brown are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Month

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named its Dick Howser Trophy Players of the Month for May, presented by The Game Headwear, tabbing Stanford outfielder Brock Jones its player of the month and Long Beach State right-handed pitcher Juaron Watts-Brown its pitcher of the month.

Tennessee is No. 1 for the seventh time in eight weeks with a nation-leading 49 victories. The Volunteers, of 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin Coach of the Year, Tony Vitello, were the No. 1 seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, May 24-29 and begin the NCAA Knoxville Regional Tournament as the No. 1 National Seed. Oregon State, the Volunteers, Texas, and Vanderbilt also have held the No. 1 position in 15 NCBWA surveys to date.

Iowa's Huckstorf, LSU's Jobert and Saint Joseph's McCole named Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending May 22. Iowa redshirt sophomore centerfielder Kyle Huckstorf and LSU redshirt sophomore outfielder Brayden Jobert were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Saint Joseph’s graduate student right-handed pitcher Ian McCole was named the National Pitcher of the Week.

The Dick Howser Trophy Committee, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce has released the list of semifinalists for the 2022 Dick Howser Trophy. The most prestigious award in college baseball is given to the top player based on two rounds of national voting.
