Pimentel, Hall and Lindsey are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending May 21. UT Rio Grande Valley graduate student first baseman Brandon Pimentel was named National Hitter of the Week, while Southern Miss right-handed pitcher Tanner Hall and  Tennessee junior right-handed pitcher Andrew Lindsey were named Co-National Pitchers of the Week.

N.C. State's White, Tennessee's Burns are National Freshman Players of the Year

DALLAS (NCBWA) – North Carolina State University infielder/designated hitter Tommy White and Tennessee right-hander Chase Burns have been named the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Freshman Hitter and Pitcher of the Year recipients, as announced by the organization today.

NCBWA announces 2022 Freshman All-America Team

A total of 34 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the 2022 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced today. The 2022 NCBWA Freshman All-America Team features players from 29 different schools and 13 different conferences.

NCBWA names 2022 Division I District Players of the Year

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its District Players of the Year for all nine districts for the 2022 season.

Five finalists named for 2022 Dick Howser Trophy

Five future 2022 consensus All-America selections who led their respective schools this spring are finalists for the 35th Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear in balloting by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in conjunction with the Dick Howser Trophy Committee and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Oregon State starting pitcher Cooper Hjerpe, Tennessee third baseman Trey Lipscomb, Texas first baseman Ivan Melendez, Georgia Tech catcher Kevin Parada and Clemson third baseman Max Wagner are the five finalists for the prestigious Howser Trophy.

NCBWA unveils 2022 Stopper of the Year Finalists

Ten relievers have been named finliasts for the 17th NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Four hail from the Southeastern Conference, while the other six are from the American Athletic, Atlantic Coast, ASUN, Colonial, Southern and Sun Belt. Eight of the 10 finalists received all-conference accolades. Charleston’s William Privette (3-1, 0.91 ERA and 12 saves) and East Carolina’s Carter Spivey (8-0, 2.43, 5 saves) were named pitcher of the year from their respective conference. 

Tennessee (56-7) tops NCBWA Division I Poll

Tennessee is No. 1 for the ninth time in the last 10 weeks with a nation-leading 56 victories. The Volunteers of 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin Coach of the Year Tony Vitello are the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Championship and will host the Knoxville Super Regional against Notre Dame of the ACC. Oregon State, the Vols, Texas and Vanderbilt have held the No. 1 position in 16 NCBWA surveys to date. All eight NCAA Super Regional hosts are among the Top 15 in this week’s poll.

Tennessee is No. 1 for the seventh time in eight weeks with a nation-leading 49 victories. The Volunteers, of 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin Coach of the Year, Tony Vitello, were the No. 1 seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, May 24-29 and begin the NCAA Knoxville Regional Tournament as the No. 1 National Seed. Oregon State, the Volunteers, Texas, and Vanderbilt also have held the No. 1 position in 15 NCBWA surveys to date.

Most of the teams ranked among the Top 30 are top seeds in their respective conference tourneys this week.

NCBWA names 2022 Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalists

The Dick Howser Trophy Committee, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce has released the list of semifinalists for the 2022 Dick Howser Trophy. The most prestigious award in college baseball is given to the top player based on two rounds of national voting.

Tennessee (45-7) tops NCBWA Division I Poll

Tennessee returned to No. 1 for the sixth time in seven weeks to replace last week’s No. 1 Oregon State. The Volunteers, of coach Tony Vitello, continue to lead all DI teams with 45 victories and have clinched the No. 1 seed in the Southeastern Conference tournament, held in Hoover, Alabama, on May 24-29. Oregon State, the Volunteers, Texas and Vanderbilt have held the No. 1 position in 14 NCBWA surveys to date.

Tennessee (37-3) is No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week; going 6-2 since having its school-record winning streak ended at 23 games overall two weeks ago. Volunteers head coach Tony Vitello, the 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin National Coach of the Year Award winner, has led the Vols to their best start in Southeastern Conference annals at 17-1. Texas, Vanderbilt and Tennessee have held down the No. 1 position in 10 NCBWA surveys to date.

Tennessee (31-1) is No. 1 for the third week in a row after running its winning streak to 23 games – second in Southeastern Conference history behind Texas A&M in 2015 with 24 consecutive victories. Volunteers head coach Tony Vitello, the 2021 NCBWA Mike Martin National Coach of the Year Award winner, also has led the Vols to their best Southeastern Conference start in school history at 12-0. Texas, Vanderbilt and the Vols have held down the No. 1 position in eight NCBWA surveys to date.

Texas, Vandy and the Vols have held down the No. 1 position in eight NCBWA surveys to date.
