Hairston, Reddemann are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Week

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending April 12. Arizona State sophomore infielder Landon Hairston was named National Hitter of the Week, while UCLA junior right-handed pitcher Logan Reddemann was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Hairston delivered five home runs in five games, tying for the national lead for the week, and now is top 5 in the country with 23 on the season. His nine hits tied for the most in the Big 12 this week, while his 10 runs tied for the second-most nationally and his 14 RBI tied for third-most in Division I. All nine of his hits went for extra bases, three more than any other player.

The Queen Creek, Arizona, native hit .409 (9-for-22) with 28 total bases and a .519 on-base percentage, and a 1.273 slugging percentage. Hairston recorded at least one hit in every game and homered in four of five games, including a two-home run, five-RBI performance in a 14-13 win over Utah.

Reddemann’s résumé-building outing at Rutgers featured a school record-tying 18 strikeouts over eight innings, leading a Bruins staff that totaled 30 strikeouts, just one shy of the NCAA single-game record, in a 4-1, 14-inning win. The Palmdale, California, native allowed only two hits and one run and closed his night by striking out 11 of the final 12 batters.

His 18 punchouts matched Rob Henkel's mark set in 2000, and the start marked the deepest outing of his career after previously maxing out at 6.1 innings. He faced 27 batters, throwing 104 pitches, with 77 for strikes.

Nationally, Reddemann ranks second in wins, fourth in strikeouts (79), and fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.88).
