Pittsburg State's Brewer, Georgia College & State's Prior are NCBWA Division II National Players of the Week

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending March 1. Pittsburg State senior outfielder Dagen Brewer is the National Hitter of the Week and Georgia College & State junior right-hander Keaton Prior is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Brewer, (Topeka, Kan. / Johnson County CC) hit .857 (12-for-14) across four games to lead No. 2 Pittsburg State to four MIAA victories. The senior outfielder scored 13 runs, drove in 12 and slugged 1.929 while compiling an .895 on-base percentage after drawing five walks, including four intentional passes. Brewer opened the week with a 4-for-4 performance against Newman, collecting a double, a home run and three RBI in a 20-2 victory. In a 17-2 road win at Arkansas-Fort Smith, he went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. Brewer followed with a 3-for-3 effort in a 30-3 win over the Lions, scoring four runs with a home run and three RBI, before adding a hit and two walks in the series finale. On the week, Brewer totaled three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI while extending his MIAA-record hitting streak to 37 consecutive games. He currently leads Pittsburg State with a .567 batting average (34-for-60) along with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 41 RBI this season. 

Prior (Milledgeville, Ga. / Andrew College) tossed the first no-hitter for Georgia College & State in 26 years in an 11-0 victory over USC Beaufort on Feb. 
28. The junior right-hander struck out eight batters over seven innings while issuing just two walks in a 98-pitch performance. Prior allowed only one runner to reach third base during the outing and retired 14 of the final 15 batters he faced to close out the historic start. He finished the game allowing no hits and no runs across seven innings. On the season, Prior ranks among the Peach Belt Conference leaders in several categories, including tied for second in fewest runs allowed (10), third in fewest hits allowed (17) and fourth in opponent batting average (.198).

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport.
