DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards presented by The Game Headwear for the period ending May 18. Grambling State junior outfielder Cameron Hill and Purdue Fort Wayne sophomore infielder Justin Osterhouse were named National Co-Hitters of the Week, while Texas A&M junior left-handed pitcher Justin Lamkin was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviewed candidates from each Division I Conference and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. These are the final selections for the 2025 season.
Hill finished with week hitting .588 (10/17), had a .647 on-base percentage and 1.470 slugging percentage, helping lead the Tigers to a 2-1 week against Mississippi Valley State. He recorded five home runs, including a grand slam in game two and at least one round-tripper in each game, seven runs scored, while driving in 15 runs.
The Jackson, Mississippi, native hit safely in all three games, including a 6-for-6 performance at the plate, with three home runs and nine RBI in game two of the series. He had a three-run homer in the first inning, then hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and finished the game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning.
Osterhouse accomplished a single-game feat on May 15 that may be a first in baseball history. He hit a walk-off grand slam for his fourth home run of the game while earning the win for pitching a scoreless ninth inning in the Mastodons 21-17 victory over Wright State.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native helped the 'Dons to an 11-run ninth inning in the contest. He is the first Mastodon to hit four home runs in a game. It was Osterhouse's second ever appearance on the mound. He didn't allow a run in his one inning of work against the Raiders.
Osterhouse added a second grand slam on Friday for five home runs in the series. For the week he finished with a .714 batting average, .750 on-base percentage and 1.929 slugging percentage. He was 10-of-14 from the plate, with seven extra base hits. He drove in 12 runs and scored 10 times.
Lamkin struck out a career-high 15 batters on 121 pitches and limited No. 10 Georgia to only three hits en route to his first career complete game shutout Friday night. The left-hander, who did not yield a walk, retired the final 16 batters he faced en route to becoming the first Texas A&M pitcher to record a complete game shutout on the road since Michael Wacha in 2012. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native also did not allow a single three-ball count on the night.
Lamkin's 15 strikeouts were the most by an Aggie since Bryce Miller recorded the same total against New Mexico State in 2021. The junior's strikeout total was also the most by a Texas A&M pitcher in an SEC contest.The left-hander's performance marked his team-leading seventh quality start of the season and the Aggies' fourth shutout of the year.
