Mokris, Choate and Sullivan are NCBWA Division III National Players of the Week

DALLAS (NCBWA) – Anna Maria College (Massachusetts) Nick Choate collects his first National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III Pitcher of the Week award after winning the rookie honor twice during the 2022 season. A five-homer, 16-RBI week and a four-homer, 11-RBI week claimed the Hitter and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, for games played April 17-23.

HITTER OF THE WEEK

Greenville University (Illinois) senior first baseman Landon Mokris powered the Panthers’ offense to four double-digit scoring efforts and a 4-0 record last week. Mokris hit .667 (8-for-12) with 16 RBI and five home runs on the week. He recorded three multi-hit games, including ones with two home runs against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Indiana) and Principia College (Illinois). Mokris, who scored nine runs on the week, posted an astounding 2.775 OPS. He ranks third in NCAA Div. III with 57 RBI on the year and fifth with 1.78 RBI per game. Mokris was named to D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week and was the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week.

Honorable Mention Hitter: Jack Goldstein, So., SS, University of Chicago (Illinois) – Midwest Conference Baseball Position Performer of the Week after bashing five homers, two triples, and two doubles over seven conference road games. He totaled 21 RBI on the week and currently leads the Maroons in RBI (39), doubles (11), and home runs (8) and is second on the team with a .320 batting average (39-for-122).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Anna Maria College (Massachusetts) sophomore Nick Choate was in complete command from the first pitch, striking out a career-high 13 en route to a 7-0 complete-game no-hitter in the AMCATS’ win over Albertus Magnus College (Connecticut) on Saturday. Choate struck out the side in the third inning and had two strikeouts in the second, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Choate was named to D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week and was the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Choate was a two-time NCBWA Div. III Rookie of the Week during the 2022 season.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Miles Schluterman, So., Hendrix College (Arkansas) – Southern Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game shutout in the Warriors’ 1-0 win over No. 2 Birmingham-Southern College (Alabama) on Saturday. The right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out five, as Hendrix completed the three-game sweep, which capped the regular season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Swarthmore College (Pennsylvania) first-year designated hitter Aidan Sullivan had a monster week, hitting .706 (12-for-17) with 11 RBI, eight runs, and four home runs. He bookended a 2-1-1 week for the Garnet with 4-for-4 games against Ursinus College (Pennsylvania) and McDaniel College (Maryland). Against Ursinus, Sullivan knocked in five runs and was a triple short of the cycle in an 18-2 win on Friday. Sullivan tallied four hits, two runs, and an RBI during a game that was called due to weather tied at nine against McDaniel on Saturday. Sullivan was named to D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week and was the Centennial Conference Player of the Week.
