Raimo, Teer and Sykes are NCBWA Division III National Players of the Week

DALLAS (NCBWA) – A .522 average while helping his team to a 6-0 record at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, a seven-inning no-hitter, and an eight-hit week caught the eyes of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III Hitter, Pitcher, and Rookie of the Week committee and are the 2023 week four selections. This week’s choices cover games played March 13-19.

HITTER OF THE WEEK
Keystone College (Pennsylvania) senior first baseman Anthony Raimo finished a 6-1 week with a .522 average (12-for-23) with four home runs, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, two doubles, seven walks, and two stolen bases. Raimo clubbed a pair of home runs in a 10-5 win over Mount Saint Mary College (New York) on Monday, hit a three-run homer against North Park University (Illinois) on Saturday, and belted a grand slam versus Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham on Saturday. Raimo was named to D3baseball.com’s Team of the Week and was the Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Honorable Mention Hitter: Quinn Blackman, Jr., OF, Rhodes College (Tennessee) – D3baseball.com Team of the Week selection and Southern Athletic Association Player of the Week after helping Lynx to a 5-0 record. Slashed .647/.714/1.235 (11-for-17), drove in 13 runs, scored nine times, and hit three home runs. Hit two home runs in 16-7 win over United States Merchant Marine Academy (New York) on Tuesday and had six RBI the following day in a 12-10 win over Westfield State University (Massachusetts).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Trinity University (Texas) sophomore Jackson Teer led the 19th-ranked Tigers to a 3-0 weekend against Austin College (Texas) to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Teer pitched a seven-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 game-two victory, recording nine strikeouts and walking just one batter. A second-inning walk was the only thing that kept Teer from a perfect game. He retired the final 16 batters to close out the victory. Trinity’s pitching allowed just four runs and had two shutouts in the three-game set with Austin. Teer was on this week’s D3baseball.com Team of the Week and was the SCAC Pitcher of the Week.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Gavin Kinworthy, So., Fontbonne University (Missouri) – Fired seven innings of three-hit shutout baseball in 5-2 win over Eureka College (Illinois) on Sunday. Struck out a career-high 15 batters, including sitting down nine of the first 12 hitters by strikeout. Was named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week and was the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Greensboro College (North Carolina) freshman infielder Evan Sykes went 8-for-13 (.615) with a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.385 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, six RBI, two doubles, a triple, two home runs, and two walks, as the Pride posted a 3-1 record last week. Sykes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one double, and one triple against 12th-ranked University of Lynchburg (Virginia). The USA South Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week went 5-for-9 with six runs scored, three RBI, a double, two home runs, and two walks in a three-game sweep of conference foe Mary Baldwin University (Virginia).
