MORGANTOWN, W. VA. (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has announced its Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Month for February. NC State first baseman Tommy White is the national hitter of the month and Florida State left-hander Bryce Hubbart is the pitcher of the month. The Dick Howser Trophy is presented annually to the NCBWA's national player of the year by The Game Headwear.
White, a native of St. Pete Beach, Florida, had a prolific opening eight games in his career, totaling nine homers and 29 RBI with a .588 (20-for-34) average. He cranked three homers in his collegiate debut and finished the season-opening three-game series with five homers in three games, belting a home run in each of the remaining two contests. In his second series of the year, White had a two-homer game in the series opener before hitting homers in each of the following two games. He has had at least four RBI in five of his first eight collegiate games.
A native of Windermere, Florida, Hubbart earned wins in each of his first two starts to open the 2022 season. The left-hander worked 11 innings in those two outings, allowing just six hits and one walk, while striking out 22. In his season debut in the second game of a series sweep over James Madison, Hubbart allowed just two hits and no walks in five innings and struck out 13. He followed that on Saturday, pitching six shutout innings in a win over Samford, allowing just four hits and a walk and striking out nine.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that the NCBWA has honored a player and pitcher of the month. Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball.
