DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on February 17, 2020. Colorado Mesa junior catcher Spencer Bramwell is the National Hitter of the Week and UT Tyler senior lefty Reagan MacDonald is the National Pitcher of the Week.
Bramwell (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS) was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as he had a monster weekend for the Mavericks in a three-game series sweep of No. 9 Southern New Hampshire. Bramwell hit .538 (7 of 13) with four home runs, seven runs scored and eight RBI. In the opener, he hit three home runs and finished the game with four hits. It was the first time a player homered three times in a game since 2003 for Colorado Mesa.
MacDonald (McKinney, Texas/Gunter HS) was phenomenal last week as he faced just one batter over the minimum, striking out ten in a seven-inning, complete-game effort to produce UT Tylers first no-hitter since Feb. 24, 2019. MacDonald retired all but one of the final 17 batters he faced, racking up six more strikeouts to finish with double-digit K·s and walked just two in an efficient 84-pitch outing. With the no-hitter on the line in the seventh, he closed the game with a three-pitch strikeout.
