NCBWA NAMES DIVISION INATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 24. New Mexico State junior infielder Tristan Peterson was named National Hitter of the Week, while Georgia Tech junior left-hander Connor Thomas was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Peterson was the top hitter in the WAC during the opening weekend of conference play in a series win against CSU Bakersfield and also chipped in a solid non-conference game at Arizona. On the week, the Tucson, Ariz., native was 12-of-19 from the plate with 13 RBI, five home runs and seven runs scored. All five home runs and 10 of those RBI came in a three-game series against CSU Bakersfield, as the transfer helped the Aggies outscore the 'Runners, 44-14. Through the first three games of WAC play, he is hitting .643 with a 1.786 slugging percentage.

Thomas used just 96 pitches to throw his first complete-game shutout Saturday in a 4-0 win over No. 4 Louisville that clinched the ACC road series for the Yellow Jackets. In addition to his low pitch count, Thomas also worked to only surrender two three-ball counts entire day while allowing five hits, walking two batters and striking out five.

The complete game is the fourth of Thomas' career, tied for fifth for a Yellow Jacket pitcher during the Danny Hall era. The Omega, Ga., native posted the first complete-game shutout by a Georgia Tech pitcher since Xzavion Curry went the distance against Wake Forest in 2018 and just the third since 2013.

Thomas, who leads the conference in innings pitched (41.1) is the only ACC pitcher to throw a shutout this season and one of just four league pitchers to throw a complete game.
