The 2024 Football Writers Association of America All-America Team , presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, has five repeat All-Americans and 16 players on teams competing in the College Football Playoff at the front of players from 40 different schools. Players from the expanded Big Ten and Southeastern Conferences make up 27, or half, of the 54-member team with nine of the Football Bowl Subdivision conferences represented plus an Independent.

The Oklahoma Sooners used an overpowering running attack and some timely takeaways to upset No. 7 Alabama, 24-3, on Senior Night at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Fans rushed the field not once but twice as the Sooners won their first Southeastern Conference game at home and became bowl eligible for a 26th consecutive season to earn the Cheez-It National Team of the Week for games the weekend of Nov. 23, as selected by the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America.

Oklahoma defensive lineman R Mason Thomas was a game-changer in the fourth quarter of the Sooners’ win Saturday, charging into the Tulane backfield for three sacks late in the game that sealed a 34-19 win that kept it undefeated. The stellar streak in his third career start earned Thomas the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor for games during the weekend of Sept. 14, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

Two first-time winners and nine previous ones comprise the 15th Super 11 Awards, presented annually by the Football Writers Association of America to the best performing College Sports Communicators departments in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The awards announced this week are for the 2023 season.

Walter Rouse has been an impact transfer player for the Oklahoma Sooners thus far, and last week in what will be his only season in Norman the left tackle left his own imprint in the Sooners’ lore Saturday in their 34-30 win in the Red River Rivalry. For pushing back two edge rushers at the same time and giving quarterback Dillon Gabriel an extra second to throw the game-winning touchdown pass, Rouse has earned the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week honor for games during the weekend of Oct. 7, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

The Football Writers Association of America has released a list of top candidates for the Steve Spurrier First-Year Coach of the Year Award, Freshman Player of the Year and the 2023 FWAA Freshman All-America Team. The Steve Spurrier First-Year Coach Award, presented by Chris Doering Mortgage, goes to the best first-year coach (at his school) in FBS football. The recipients of the Steve Spurrier First-Year Coach of the Year, the FWAA Freshman of the Year and a Spurrier Legends Coach awardee will be honored at a special reception in Februray in Gainesville, Fla.
