TEXAS REMAINS NO. 1 IN NCBWA POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA)
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its
tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with its 2005 weekly surveys.
Weekly polls will continue each Monday through June 28,
following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The top-ranked Texas Longhorns swept
Stanford in a three-game series on their way to an
11-0 start, their best since 1995, to keep the
nation's No. 1 ranking. Tulane outscored visiting
Arizona State, 23-7, in a weekend sweep to move to 7-0
and up to No. 2 in the poll. Unbeaten LSU moved up
three notches to No. 3 this week.

UC Irvine, at No. 23, is among six new teams to
enter the poll this week. No. 19 USC and No. 14 Texas A&M made the biggest
jumps, moving up seven and six spots, respectively. Stanford,
meanwhile, dropped ten places, from fifth to 15th. The
SEC, with now nine schools in the rankings, leads all
conferences.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college
baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of
the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter
updates and official votes in the Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of
the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors the Pro-Line Cap
Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing
contests.
