INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Quamir Ingram of Greensboro College (Greensboro, N.C.) and Caroline Peper of New York University (New York, N.Y.) were named the Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the period ending November 30.
Ingram, a 6-2 freshman guard from Greensboro, N.C., made his collegiate debut on Tuesday against Oglethorpe with an impressive entrance. He scored 48 points (15-of-26 FT, 16-of-20 FT, 2-of-4 3FG) off the bench, the second-highest total at any NCAA level this season and the most by a Greensboro player since 2003, in leading the Pride to a 104-96 victory. Ingram added nine rebounds and one steal in his 33 minutes on the court. He shot 57.7 percent from the field, 80.0 percent from the foul line and 50.0 percent from behind the arc. For his efforts, Ingram was also named the USA South Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Peper, a 6-0 senior forward/guard from South Easton, Mass., had an outstanding weekend in leading No. 1 (WBCA/D3hoops.com) New York University to a pair of victories and the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament Championship. She played only 18 minutes in the Violets’ 115-42 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, finishing with 20 points (8-of-15 FG, 4-of-10 3FG), one rebound, two assists, one steal, and one block. In Sunday’s Championship Game against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Peper tied NYU program records with 41 points (14-of-28 FG, 2-of-2 FT, 11-of-23 3FG) and 11 three-pointers while also becoming the 20th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. She added two rebounds, four assists, and seven steals in the contest. For the week, Peper averaged 30.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks, while shooting 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the field, 100 percent (2-of-2) from the foul line and 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from behind the arc. For her efforts, Peper was also selected Tournament MVP and University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week in becoming the first NYU women’s player to earn USBWA National Player of the Week honors. NYU’s victory on Sunday was its 69th straight, now the second-longest winning streak in NCAA Division III women’s basketball history.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 11th season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
