Notre Dame's Hidalgo headlines USBWA's women's weekly honors

For the period through Sunday, Feb. 22, the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women’s honorees of the week are Rice guard Hailey Adams; Iowa center Ava Heiden; Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo; TCU guard Olivia Miles; and South Carolina center Madina Okot. The Tamika Catchings freshman of the week is USC guard Jazzy Davidson, and the team of the week is Clemson.

Aaron Coston of SUNY Cortland (Cortland, N.Y.) and Kathleen Smith of Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the period ending February 15.

The Tamika Catchings freshman of the week is USC guard Jazzy Davidson, and the team of the week is Maryland.

For the period through Sunday, Feb. 8, the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women’s honorees of the week are Ohio State guard Jaloni Cambridge; South Carolina forward Joyce Edwards; Marshall guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey; California guard Gisella Maul; andf UCLA guard Kiki Rice. The Tamika Catchings Co-National Freshmen of the Week are Kansas forward Jaliya Davis and Siena guard Francesca Schiro, and the National Team of the Week is North Carolina.

At the beginning of each month the association will be awarding two Oscar Robertson Player of the Month honors. One will go to a player at a high-major program, the other at a mid-major school. This will continue to spotlight big-time performers and add more attention and recognition beyond our five-man Player of the Week spotlights.

For the period through Sunday, Jan. 18, the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women’s honorees of the week are Georgia guard Dani Carnegie; Syracuse guard Dominique Darius; Oklahoma State guard Stailee Heard; Columbia guard Nasi Simmons; Iowa forward Hannah Stuelke. The Tamika Catchings freshman of the week is Seton Hall guard Zahara Bishop and the team of the week is Louisville.

Wayman Tisdale Award Midseason Watch List unveiled

Fifteen players from the Power Five basketball conferences are represented on the U.S. Basketball Writers Association’s Midseason Watch List for the Wayman Tisdale Award. The mid-January reveal is a whittling from the preseason list, which began with 25 players. An especially strong class led to a competitive mid-January voting intake from the 11-person USBWA board.
