DALLAS (FWAA) North Carolina State cornerback A.J. Davis
(Durham, N.C.) was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive
Player of the Week for his performance in the Wolfpack's 20-15 win
over Florida State this past Saturday.
Davis, a 5-10, 190-pound junior, had a pair of second-half
interceptions, including one on the N.C. State goal line in the final
minutes to preserve N.C. State's upset. His first interception, which he
returned 43 yards, set up the Wolfpack's final score of the day in the
third quarter. Johnson added eight tackles and one tackle-for-loss on
 the afternoon.
Davis has been added to the Watch List for the 2005 Bronko Nagurski
Trophy, which will be presented to the best defensive player in college
football on Dec. 5 by the Football Writers Association of America and
the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The presentation will take place at the
Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis
will be the keynote speaker at the event this year.
