One-handed scoring snag earns Miami the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week

DALLAS (FWAA) – Florida Citrus Sports and Cheez-It have teamed up to present the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week during the 2025 college football season, with each week's play selected in conjunction with the Football Writers Association of America.

The Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week features the unforgettable, game-changing moments that got people talking. From clutch touchdowns to key goal-line stands, these are the plays that had fans on the edge of their seats during crunch time on Saturday — and maybe reaching for another handful of crackers with the game on the line. Throughout the season, the FWAA will announce the winning play at the conclusion of each week's games, after the FWAA All-America committee selects one outstanding play each weekend during the regular season.

To celebrate the honor, each winning team will receive a care package of Cheez-It crackers.

Miami is the winner of the Cheez-It Crunch Time Play of the Week for Week 1 for CJ Daniels' one-handed touchdown snag that extended the Miami lead to 14-7 in a 27-24 win on Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

With 12 seconds left in the first half in a tie game, Miami (1-0) had the ball on the Notre Dame 20-yard line when quarterback Carson Beck, under pressure, threw a pass toward the end zone, which was slightly off-target. Daniels leaped into the air between two defenders and, reaching behind his head with one hand, snagged the ball and secured it as he fell into the end zone for the score.

The catch was reviewed by the officials but was ultimately upheld, giving Miami a crucial 14-7 lead heading into halftime. The play, which has been compared to famous one-handed grabs by players like Odell Beckham Jr., was a major momentum-shifter for the Hurricanes in their eventual victory. Daniels finished the evening with five catches for 46 yards.
