With the final stretch of the 2024 collegiate regular season underway, 59 of the sport’s top relief pitchers were named to the Midseason Watch List for the 19th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year award, members of the association announced Wednesday. Relievers who are not on the midseason list still have an opportunity to be named a finalist for the award. 

Seventy-three players have been named to the initial Watch List for the 19th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Wednesday. The institution or conference sports information directors submitted nominees.

Oral Roberts’ Cade Denton received 2023 Stopper of the Year honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Friday. He is the first player from the Summit League to receive the award since the Stopper of the Year debuted in 2005.  

Ten relievers have been named finalists for the 18th NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. 

As the final month of the 2023 collegiate season approaches, 56 of the sport’s top relief pitchers were named to the Midseason Watch List for the 18th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, members of the association announced Wednesday. Relievers who are not on the midseason list still have an opportunity to be named a finalist for the award. 

Eighty-one players have been named to the initial Watch List for the 18th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Thursday. Nominees were submitted by the institution or conference Sports Information Directors.

Texas State’s Tristan Stivors was named the 2022 Stopper of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Friday, becoming the first player from the Sun Belt to win the honor since the award’s inception in 2005. Stivors, a right-handed pitcher from Castroville, Texas, boasted a 7-1 record with a nation-leading 18 saves. He allowed just 18 runs, 15 earned, in 61 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .210 batting average. The senior allowed multiple runs in just four of his 32 appearances. 

Ten relievers have been named finliasts for the 17th NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Four hail from the Southeastern Conference, while the other six are from the American Athletic, Atlantic Coast, ASUN, Colonial, Southern and Sun Belt. Eight of the 10 finalists received all-conference accolades. Charleston’s William Privette (3-1, 0.91 ERA and 12 saves) and East Carolina’s Carter Spivey (8-0, 2.43, 5 saves) were named pitcher of the year from their respective conference.
