Sun., Oct. 23: The Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) maintained its firm grip on the No. 1 ranking, claiming all but one first-place vote, which went to Michigan, now ranked No. 2. A couple of upsets, including erstwhile No. 2 Ohio State falling at unranked Penn State and SMU upsetting No. 11 Houston, shook up the poll this week. Ohio State dropped four spots to No. 6, and Houston now finds itself no longer in the poll. The Big Ten and SEC lead all leagues with four teams each, but the Big Ten has four among the top 10 teams.
