After an offseason full of transfers, coaching changes, and NIL deals, I imagine everyone is ready for the 2026-27 college basketball season.
The men’s game continues to produce some of the most electric matchups and surprises. It’s also exciting to acknowledge that we are in an unprecedented period of growth in the women’s game! From shattering attendance and viewership records to witnessing a level of talent on the floor unlike anything we’ve seen before, this sport has become the talk of the town.
While I’ve been fortunate enough to have grown up around the women’s game as the daughter of a head coach, there is something really special about the attention and support these players and coaches are finally receiving.
Which brings me to a vital part of the growth of the game: you. Writers who understand the importance of using facts to tell the stories of athletes, coaches, and teams. Beat reporters who understand how to build relationships and ask fair, thoughtful questions. Journalists who can go beyond the box score and teach the audience something new. Media members who can shed light on why a season is — or isn’t — going the way it is. In a world full of AI and short attention spans, your role in this space is more important than ever.
The USBWA features some of the best journalists in our craft. We strive to continue supporting our writers and encouraging open dialogue as we take on the upcoming season. It is an honor to serve as your president this year. I look forward to our future conversations and endeavors.
Cheers to a great season.
