CAMERON, LAWRENCE ARE USBWA DIVISION III NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Brian Cameron of Wesley College (Dover, Del.) and Abbey Lawrence of Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the week ending February 2.

Cameron, a 6-1 senior guard from Newark, Del., recorded a pair of 30-point games and played the full 40 minutes in each as Wesley (12-8, 6-1) defeated both of its opponents last week. In Wednesday's 76-73 win over Gwynedd Mercy, Cameron scored 30 points, grabbed nine rebounds, totaled five assists, and added a steal. Then, in the Wolverines' 88-84 victory at Marymount on Saturday, Cameron finished with 38 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. For the week, he averaged 34 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and two steals while shooting 55.3 percent (21-of-38) from the field, 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the foul line and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from three-point range. For his efforts, Cameron was also named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Lawrence, a 5-9 sophomore guard/forward helped lead Case Western Reserve (10-8, 5-2) to two road wins last week. On Friday, Lawrence scored a career-high 30 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and a steal in the Spartans' 80-68 win at Brandeis. Then, in Sunday's 87-75 victory at NYU (then-receiving votes D3hoops.com), she filled up the box score with 28 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal. For the week, Lawrence averaged 29 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 57.6 percent (19-of-33) from the field, a perfect 100 percent (16-of-16) from the foul line and 40 percent (4-of-10) from behind the arc. For her efforts, Lawrence was also named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the sixth season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers.
