ST. LOUIS (USBWA) The U.S. Basketball Writers Association
has selected Washington forward Noah Dickerson as its Oscar Robertson National Player of
the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Feb. 4. The
USBWA's weekly honor is presented by Blue Ribbon College
As the Pac-12 Conference
the Week, Dickerson was nominated for the weekly award, and then
chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from
a list of Division I conference players of the week. This is the
ninth season that the USBWA has selected a national player of
A 6-8, 245-pound junior from Atlanta, Ga., Dickerson
averaged a double-double of 23.0 points on 55 percent shooting
(17-for-35) and 11.5 rebounds in Washington's upset victories
over No. 25 Arizona State (68-64) and No. 9 Arizona (78-75) last
Dickerson led all players with 25 points on 10-of-16
shooting and added seven rebounds and one block in the Huskies'
dramatic upset of the Wildcats on Saturday, Washingtons third
win over a ranked opponent this season, including its second
top-10 upset. On Thursday, he posted 21 points and 16 rebounds
for his second 20-10 double-double of the season in the win over
the Sun Devils.
Dickerson leads the Huskies in rebounding (8.1
rpg) and is the team's second-leading scorer (15.0 ppg).
Since the 1958-59 season, the USBWA has named a National Player
of the Year. In 1998, the award was named in honor of the University
of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year
Oscar Robertson. It is the nation's oldest award and the only
one named after a former player.
the conclusion of the regular season, the USBWA will name finalists
for the award, which is voted on by the entire membership.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in
1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers.
With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential
organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America
