COLORADO MESA TOPS NCBWA DIVISION II POLL

PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) Four victories in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament was enough to keep Colorado Mesa atop the NCBWA Division II Top 25 on Wednesday as the Mavericks hauled in 15 of a possible 19 first-place votes to keep a tight grip on the No. 1 position for the eighth-straight week. Surging Central Missouri and West Florida split the remaining four first-place votes and settled in to the Nos. 2 and 3 positions, respectively.


All four teams participating in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional appear in this weeks NCBWA Division II Top 25, including the Mavericks, West Texas A&M (No. 5), Angelo State (No. 10) and Colorado Colorado Springs (No. 24) who took two of three matchups with Colorado Mesa on the way to capturing the RMAC Tournament crown. All three teams competing in the NCAA Division II West Regional are among the nation·s top 25 squads as well.


Catawba made the biggest move of any team in the national ranking this week, jumping eight spots to No. 8 after being crowned with the top seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. Western Oregon re-entered the top 25 in the No. 23 position after taking a one-week leave from the poll. Colorado Colorado Springs (No. 24) is in the national ranking for the first time in the 19-year history of the poll, while West Virginia State (No. 25) is among the top 25 teams for the first time since April 20, 2010 (Week 8).


Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy, Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the Year, and publication and writing contests.
