NCBWA NAMES DIVISION IIINATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – This week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III Pitcher of the Week snapped the top-ranked team's 24-game winning streak with a no-hitter, while a five-home run performance and a two-hitter round out this week's honors. This week's performances spanned games played April 15-21.

Hitter of the Week: Saint John's University (Minn.) junior infielder Joey Stock batted .565 (13-for-23) with eight extra-base hits, including five home runs, an OPS of 1.977, 16 RBI, and 10 runs scored as the Johnnies went 5-1 on the road last week in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Stock recorded four home runs over the first three games of the week and added a solo shot in the week's final game at Augsburg University. He currently leads the MIAC in home runs (7) and is tied for fourth in RBI (25).

Honorable Mention Hitter: Nathan Davis, Jr., OF, Johns Hopkins University Earned his second straight weekly honor after going 6-for-12 at the plate with four home runs, two doubles, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored in a 4-0 week for the Centennial Conference-leading Blue Jays. The junior outfielder hit two balls out of the park in the Blue Jays' come-from-behind victory over Dickinson College in game one. Davis then gave Hopkins a quick 3-0 lead with his second three-run homer of the day in the first inning of game two. His 12 homers are the second-most in Div. III this season.

Pitcher of the Week: Connor Cook's no-hitter for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was extra memorable last week, as the junior's no-no snapped top-ranked Concordia University Chicago's 24-game winning streak. Cook went seven innings in the 10-0 shutout, during which he allowed one walk and struck out eight. Cook faced two batters over the minimum en route to the program's seventh no-hitter. It's UWL's first no-hitter since Kyle Kaufman tossed one against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on May 1, 2004.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Austin Smith, So., Southwestern University Threw a no-hitter in the Pirates' series-opener against the University of Dallas to spark Southwestern to a three-game sweep of the Crusaders. The sophomore recorded his fifth double-digit strikeout game in a row and his seventh this season, striking out 10 in his seven innings of work. His performance upped his strikeout total to 96, which leads the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Rookie of the Week: Roger Williams University rookie Kyle Schaefer was brilliant in the Hawks' 7-0 non-conference victory over Wesleyan University last Tuesday. Schaefer logged his first career shutout, during which he scattered two hits over nine innings of work. The right-hander struck out seven and walked three. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.
