NCBWA NAMES DIVISION IINATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April 1. Azusa Pacific freshman third baseman Tido Robles is the National Hitter of the Week, and Western Oregon junior pitcher Alex Roth is the National Pitcher of the Week.


Robles (Paramount, Calif./St. John Bosco HS) hit a grand slam and two 3-run home runs, along with a solo shot, to lead Azusa Pacific to a series win over Biola. He led Cougar offense, which scored 50 runs in the four-game series.


Roth (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge HS) set a school-record and tied the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for strikeouts in a single game with 15 in a 3-0 shutout of Saint Martin's.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
