OREGON STATE TOPS NCBWA DIVISION I POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 21st year with its 2018 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 19-June 28 (weekly through June 5) following the 72nd annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park. For the third-straight week Oregon State sits atop the NCBWA Division I poll, followed by Florida at No. 2 and North Carolina at No. 3.

Oregon State is No. 1 in the rankings for the third-straight week after cruising through the Corvallis Regional.

Teams ranked No. 1 this year have been Florida (preseason-March 5, April 2-16, May 14), Oregon State (March 12-26, May 21-present) and Stanford (April 23-May 7).

Florida moves up one spot to No. 2 after winning the Gainesville Regional in dramatic fashion on Monday night.

For the first time this season, North Carolina jumps into the top three, moving up three spots Chapel Hill Regional.

The highest ranking team not advancing to the NCAA Super Regional round is Ole Miss at No. 13.

This weeks biggest mover was South Carolina, who jumped up 13 spots to No. 12 after winning the Greenville Regional. Mississippi State and Auburn were next, as they both moved up 12 slots to No. 16 and No. 9, respectively.

Newcomers to the rankings this week include Cal State Fullerton at No. 14, Vanderbilt at No. 15 and Washington at No. 17. All three squads won their respective regionals, led by the Titans who knocked off the No. 2 overall seed Stanford.

The 2018 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.

The current survey has representation by 15 different conferences among the 299 baseball-playing schools in the 2018 NCAA Division I ranks. The rankings of 2017 had 13 different DI conferences rated at least one week. The NCBWA record is 22 different conferences represented in 2012.
