OREGON STATE TOPS NCBWA DIVISION I POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 21st year with its 2018 weekly surveys. For the first time since March 26, Oregon State is back at No. 1 in the weekly poll. The Beavers are followed by Pac-12 foe Stanford at No. 2 and Florida sits at No. 3.

The Beavers, ranked No. 1 for the second different time and fourth week total this season, are coming off a 4-1 showing last week taking two midweek contests at the University of San Diego, before winning a Pac-12 road series at USC.

Teams ranked No. 1 this year have been Florida (preseason-March 5, April 2-16, May 14), Oregon State (March 12-26, May 21) and Stanford (April 23-May 7).

Stanford sits at No. 2 as the Pac-12 holds down the top two spots this week. The Cardinal went 4-0 last week, defeating BYU in a midweek contest before sweeping Washington State in a conference series.

Florida drops from the top spot to No. 3 this week after being swept at Mississippi State in a conference series.

Ole Miss and Clemson round out the top five this week, sitting at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Florida State moves up four spots to join the top 10 this week at No. 7, while Georgia was the biggest mover of the week, jumping up six spots to No. 10.

Mississippi State jumps into the top 30 after sweeping then-No. 1 Florida, sitting at No. 27 this week. Indiana also moves into the top 30 this week, sitting at No. 28 after previously receiving votes.

The 2018 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.

The current survey has representation by 15 different conferences among the 299 baseball-playing schools in the 2018 NCAA Division I ranks. The rankings of 2017 had 13 different DI conferences rated at least one week. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to ncbwa.com.
