DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its monthly award winners for March on Wednesday. Clemson slugger Seth Beer has been named the National Player of the Month and Auburn right-hander Casey Mize has been named the National Pitcher of the Month.
A native of Suwanee, Ga., Beer is coming off a March where he hit .294 (20-for-68) with eight homers, 20 RBI and a .662 slugging percentage. In 2018, Beer has hit .282 (31-for-110) with five doubles, 10 homers and 25 RBI, owning 27 walks and just 15 strikeouts.
Mize, a product of Springville, Ala., put up monster numbers in March, going 5-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his six starts, fanning 62 with just a walk in 42 innings, allowing just 20 hits. Mize has a 6-1 record and a 2.17 ERA in 54 innings in 2018, allowing 32 hits and four walks, fanning 77. In his three-year career, Mize has a 16-8 record and a 2.57 ERA in 206.2 innings, striking out 245 with just 31 walks.
This marks the third season the NCBWA has honored a national player and pitcher of the month.
