NCBWA NAMES DIVISION IINATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on May 9. Colorado State University-Pueblo junior third baseman Chris Devery is the National Hitter of the Week, while Palm Beach Atlantic senior pitcher Sean Horner is the National Pitcher of the Week.


Devery (Saugus, Calif./College of the Canyons) dominated this weekend with 16 RBIs and a 1.222 slugging percentage. He batted .556 and posted a .579 on base percentage. Devery totaled an impressive 1.801 OPS thanks to two home runs, four doubles and a triple. Devery was clutch, hitting .727 with runners in scoring position and a .571 average with two outs. In saturday's doubleheader, Devery went 3-for-4 in both games with four runs scored. In Sunday's series finale, he drove in five more RBIs. Devery went 3-for-6 with two doubles and a triple. The 16 RBIs nearly doubled Devery's season total, giving him 33 on the year. He now ranks sixth in the RMAC with a team-best .395 average.


Horner (Sunrise, Fla./Western HS) tossed his first career complete-game shutout in his final start of his collegiate career while taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning. Horner allowed a one-out single in the ninth but held on for the 6-0 victory over Rollins College. Horner struck out eight Tars batters while working around three walks to settle for the one-hit shutout.
