NCBWA NAMES DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) Salem State's Richard Fecteau and Earlham's Walter Talcott were tabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 2-8.

Fecteau, a senior infielder from Newbury, Mass., had a huge run in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The MASCAC Hitter of the Week batted .800 (12-15) with three home runs, two doubles, eight runs and a 1.533 slugging percentage over the three-day tournament to earn MVP honors and help the Vikings to the title. Fecteau rose his efforts even higher in the championship series, going seven-for-eight with three home runs, a double, four RBI and four runs scored.

Talcott, a freshman right-hander from Lafayette, Ind., tossed a complete-game shutout in the Quakers' 3-0 win over Hanover May 6, leading Earlham to the third seed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The HCAC Pitcher of the Week struck out 11 batters and allowed only three hits in nine innings of work.

Honorable Mention Hitter: Anthony Serina, Sr., DH, Endicott: Went 11-for-15 in a 3-0 week for the Gulls to go along with a .733/.778/1.267 slash line, eight runs scored, two doubles, two homers, nine RBI, three walks, and three stolen bases. In the opening round of the CCC Tournament against Gordon, Serina broke single-game program records for most runs scored (six), hits (five), and RBIs (eight). The senior designated hitter finished with a 5-for-6 line at the plate versus the Fighting Scots, which included one single, two doubles, a pair of opposite field homers, two walks, and three stolen bases. Overall on the week, Serina put together three multi-hit games, reached base safely in 14 out of his 18 plate appearances, and also went 9-for-10 in a pair of playoff games for Endicott.

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Kyle Kennedy, Sr., RHP, Massachusetts Maritime: Recorded all three victories for the Buccaneers in the MASCAC Championships, scattering five hits and striking out eight while allowing one run in nine total innings over four appearances. Escaped a bases-loaded, no outs jam in ninth inning of 6-5 championship round triumph at Salem State with three innings of work, and tossed combined 4 1/3 scoreless frames with four strikeouts in 3-2 second round victory over Fitchburg State and 6-3 elimination round win over Westfield State.
