NCBWA NAMES DIVISION IIINATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) Rose-Hulman's Andrew Stull and Trinity University of Texas' Andrew Waters earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association Division III accolades for the period of Feb. 22-28.


Stull, a senior right-handed pitcher from Sammamish, Wash., tossed a nine-inning no-hitter to lift Rose-Hulman past Ohio Northern 7-0 in the team's season opening doubleheader on Feb. 28. Stull faced the minimum 27 batters against a team ranked No. 24 nationally in the preseason Perfect Game poll. Stull walked none, allowed no hits and struck out seven in a 73-pitch performance. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of Week previously threw a one-hitter over eight innings against Mount Union last season and threw the first Rose-Hulman no-hitter since 1993.


Waters, a senior outfielder from Houston, Texas, was on fire last weekend, leading Trinity to a 4-0 overall week that finished with a three-game sweep of Austin College on Friday and Saturday. Waters hit a blistering .833 (10-12) in the three games against Austin, collecting four doubles, two triples, and two home runs among his 10 hits. He also scored six runs and added eight RBI, posting an astronomical 2.000 slugging percentage for the weekend. The week began for Waters with a Friday night doubleheader during which he was 7-8 with four runs and six RBI, picking up four doubles, a triple, and a round-tripper. He followed that with Saturday evening's 3-4 performance that included two runs, two RBI, a triple, and another homer. During his hot streak, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week had hits in seven consecutive at-bats for the Tigers.


Honorable Mention Hitter: Daniel Watson, So., 1B/OF, Case Western Reserve - Batted .647 (11-for-17) with two home runs, eight runs scored, eight runs batted in, and eight stolen bases to lead the Spartans to three wins in four games last weekend. He finished 5-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six RBI in a 13-5 win over Manchester University and finished the span going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI in an 11-4 victory over 12th-ranked Heidelberg College. Watson concluded the set with a 1.000 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage.


Honorable Mention Pitcher: Seth Debity, Sr., RHP, Maryville (Tenn.) - - Tossed a complete-game shutout in a 3-0 victory over USA South foe Piedmont in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Scots. Debity went the distance allowing just two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts.
