NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Ithaca College senior IF Kyle Wilkins was named the National Hitter of the Week, while College of New Jersey junior RHP Julius Jenkins won the Pitcher of the Week honors. A panel of Division III NCBWA members reviews candidates from each Division III Conference each week and names winners each Tuesdaythroughout the season.

Wilkins batted .500 in a 5-2 week for the Bombers, ranked fourth in the latest regional poll. He finished 13-for-26, scored 12 runs, and drove in 11 runs. He hit two home runs (both against 10th-ranked Oneonta in a game, posting career-bests of two homers and five RBI), was perfect in six stolen bases attempts, and did not make an error in 26 chances playing every inning at second base. He recorded a .769 slugging percentage and .519 on-base percentage.

Jenkins became the first reliever to earn NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors after collecting a win and three saves in six appearances during the week for the Lions. In 14 1/3 innings, he surrendered only 10 hits, three earned runs (1.88 ERA) and three walks while striking out 15 during the course of the week. In five-of-his-six outings, he logged at least two innings as the Lions went 5-1 in the six games that he appeared in. Jenkins currently ranks second among NJAC pitchers with a 1.86 ERA. He also leads the conference with four saves on the season.
