DALLAS (FWAA) – By virtue of their 38-24 win over North Carolina State, the
Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been named as the Football Writers Association of America's
National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 6.
The honor is decided by the 16-member panel that votes in the organization's Grantland
Rice Super 16 Poll, which is in its second season.
The Demon Deacons ran their record to 2-0 by scoring three times in the game's first 22 minutes and jumping out to a 25-point first-half lead.
The other teams nominated this week were Miami, for its impressive 38-33 comeback win over Florida, Notre Dame for its 26-23 overtime triumph vs. Washington State and South Carolina for the 31-7 beating it handed to Virginia..
The FWAA Team of the Week will be announced each Monday throughout the season.
The Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, released in the preseason, will resume on Monday, Oct. 13.
The FWAA, in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club, also resumes its Bronko Nagurski
National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday., Sept. 9.
