LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – For the first time this season, the
Dallas Desperados are not No. 1 in the Schutt Sports Top 12 Poll.
On
the strength of their 59-51 win over Tampa Bay, the Philadelphia
Soul leaped over Dallas to gain the top spot, garnering 10 of
18 first-place votes. The Desperados, which defeated unranked New
York 33-31, received the other eight votes.
For the past few weeks, the Soul had been inching up on Dallas,
but it finally won over the members of the Arena Football League
Writers Association with the win over the No. 8 Storm, which had
the biggest drop in the poll this week, from fifth.
The largest rise came from surprising Grand Rapids, which entered
the poll at No. 9. The Rampage has been dominating the past two
weeks, scoring 92 in a 40-point win over Kansas City in Week 4,
and they followed that with a 84-59 rout Sunday of No. 11 Los Angeles,
which fell two spots.
No. 3 Chicago, which defeated No. 12 Arizona 59-35, and No. 4
New Orleans, which won its fourth straight game by beating Colorado,
remained in their positions with 4-1 records.
The only division to have all of its teams in the poll is the
Southern. Along with the Storm and VooDoo, Orlando moved up from
eighth to seventh, and Georgia rose from 12th to 10th.
This week's biggest game comes Saturday night when No. 2 Dallas
hosts No. 6 Cleveland, which had a bye last week. On ESPN2 Sunday
afternoon, the Predators will face the Rush at 2 p.m. Eastern.
