Cleveland QB fires 9 TD passes
PHILYAW IS AFLWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – With one of the season's top performances by a quarterback, Cleveland's Raymond Philyaw has been named the Arena Football League Writers Association's Player of the Week for Week 8.

Philyaw

Philyaw completed 30 of 39 pass attempts for nine touchdowns in the Gladiators' 83-69 win at Los Angeles. Four of his scoring passes came with less than nine minutes remaining, and his team in a 55-55 game.

Philyaw's favorite target was Otis Amey, who caught 15 passes for 208 yards and six touchdowns, including two in the final two minutes of both the first and second halves.

For Philyaw, it was only the second time in his career and first time since his second season in 2001, in which he passed for at least nine touchdowns in a game. With Indiana seven seasons ago in Game 11, he threw 10 scoring passes.

The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football League. The association will name an AFL Player of the Week each week throughout the 2007 season. The AFLWA has presented this weekly award since its inception during the 2004 season. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is the AFLWA's founder and executive director.
