LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – In a unanimous decision among board
members of the Arena Football League Writers Association,
Dallas' Clint Dolezel and New Orleans' Steve Bellisari
were named Co-Players of the Week for Week 15, after the
two quarterbacks became the first duo in AFL history to each account
for 11 touchdowns in a game.
In a back-and-forth battle that was tied at the end of each of
the first three quarters, Bellisari hit Wendall Williams as time
expired to get the VooDoo within 80-79. Instead of going for the
extra point that would have sent the game into overtime, Coach Mike
Neu decided to go for two and the win.
Bellisari was sacked by Colston Weatherington, and the Desperados
hung on to keep a one-game lead over Georgia in the race for the
top seed in the National Conference.
Dolezel tied a league record by throwing 11 touchdown passes,
and he was 33-of-41 for 386 yards. Bellisari was 33-of-46 for 418
yards with nine passing touchdowns and two rushing scores.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. The association will name an AFL Player of the Week each
week throughout the 2007 season. The AFLWA has presented this weekly
award since its inception during the 2004 season. Mark Anderson
of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is the AFLWA's founder and
executive director.
