Quarterback leads SaberCats to seventh straight win
SAN JOSE'S GRIEB IS
AFLWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – San Jose SaberCats quarterback Mark Grieb led his team to an important victory and set a record in the process, becoming the Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA) Player of the Week.

Grieb passes for 311 yards and eight touchdowns to rally San Jose from an 11-point halftime deficit to a 68-47 victory over the Columbus Destroyers. The victory helped give the SaberCats, who have a seven-game winning streak, momentum going into the playoffs. San Jose will have a first-round bye.

"No question, we want the week off," Grieb told the San Jose Mercury News. "We're a little banged up, and it'll be nice to rest and come back strong."

Also, Grieb broke his own record with 4,850 yards passing. His previous mark of 4,796 was set last season.

The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is the AFLWA's founder and executive director.
