LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – Typical of this crazy season in which
no team seems to want to be No. 1, the Georgia Force moved
back to the top of the Arena Football League Writers Association
(AFLWA) Top 8 Poll without even playing.
The Force (9-4) received 14 first-place votes and 126 points.
Georgia is No. 1 for the second time in three weeks and for the
fourth week overall. This weekend, the Force hosts the No. 5 Tampa
Bay Storm (8-5), which entered the rankings following a 47-36 victory
over the New Orleans VooDoo. The loss dropped the VooDoo (8-5) from
a tie for fourth to out of the poll.
Last week's co-No. 1s, the Orlando Predators (9-5) and the San
Jose SaberCats (8-5), fell to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Orlando,
which lost 64-60 to the Philadelphia Soul, is at the Austin Wranglers
(5-9). San Jose, which was beaten 57-55 by the Nashville Kats, hosts
the No. 7 Los Angeles Avengers. Los Angeles (8-5) moved up a spot
after defeating the Arizona Rattlers 59-56.
A 63-62 victory over the Las Vegas Gladiators moved the Chicago
Rush (8-5) up three places to No. 4. Chicago is at Arizona (4-9).
The New York Dragons (8-5) entered the poll at No. 6 thanks to
a 65-57 victory over Dallas, which dropped the Desperados (7-5-1)
from sixth to out of rankings. New York hosts the Columbus Destroyers
(1-12).
Falling four spots to No. 8, the Colorado Crush (8-5) round out
the rankings. Colorado, which lost 58-52 to the Grand Rapids Rampage,
is at New Orleans.
