LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – Having survived one test against a
ranked opponent, the No. 1 New Orleans VooDoo prepares for
another one this weekend against the Orlando Predators.
New Orleans (5-1) remained at the top of the latest Top 8
Poll, which was conducted by the Arena Football League Writers
Association (AFLWA). The VooDoo, which received 10 first-place
votes and 107 points, kept the top spot after defeating Dallas 53-51,
dropping the Desperados (4-2) one spot into a tie for No. 4. New
Orleans now faces Orlando (4-2), which also is tied for No. 4. The
Predators fell two spaces after a 57-38 loss to the San Jose SaberCats.
Dallas is at the Austin Wranglers (2-4).
This weekend also features a matchup between the No. 2 Georgia
Force (5-1) and No. 3 New York Dragons (4-1). Georgia, which beat
the Columbus Destroyers 55-48 to move up two slots, received three
first-place votes and 98 points. New York took the other first-place
vote and totaled 82 points following its 61-54 victory over the
Philadelphia Soul. The Dragons also advanced two spots.
The Tampa Bay Storm (3-2) moved up one place to No. 6 after downing
the Grand Rapids Rampage 70-50. Tampa Bay next hosts the Arizona
Rattlers (1-5).
Also up a spot were the Los Angeles Avengers (4-2), who edged
Arizona 33-29. Los Angeles is off.
Finally, the Colorado Crush (3-2) dropped two places to No. 8
despite not playing. Colorado is at the Nashville Kats (1-5).
