LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – No other player has been named the
Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA) Player of the
Week more than once this season, but now Tampa Bay Storm quarterback
Shane Stafford has won it a third time.
He put the Storm into the playoffs with a 78-53 victory over
the Columbus Destroyers, passing for five touchdowns and running
for three more. Stafford also completed 26 of 38 passes for 277
yards with no interceptions.
Now he turns his attention to the postseason. The Storm is making
its 15 consecutive playoff appearance.
"We knew we didn't want to be that team that didn't make the
playoffs," Stafford told the Tampa Tribune. "The tradition
is huge. You don't want to be the team that people remember as not
being as good as teams in the past."
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director. The association's website
is www.aflwa.com.
