LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – A kicker might have provided the winning
point, but Cory Fleming's play was responsible for the Orlando
Predators to even be in such a position, and he is the Arena
Football League Writers Association (AFLWA) Player of the Week.
Fleming caught 11 passes for 159 yards with four touchdowns,
and was particularly instrumental in helping Orlando build a 35-16
lead over the Los Angeles Avengers. Los Angeles came back to force
overtime, but the Predators eventually prevailed 55-54 when Avengers
kicker Remy Hamilton missed an extra point and Orlando's Brian Gowins
made his.
It was an important victory for the Predators (7-3), who moved
into a tie with the Georgia Force for first place in the Southern
Division.
Fleming's contributions certainly were no surprise. He was the
AFL's Ironman of the Year last season after catching 131 passes
for 1,620 yards with 33 touchdowns.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director. The association's website
is www.aflwa.com.
