LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – In a game in which three players distinguished
themselves, San Jose SaberCats offensive specialist Rashied Davis
stood out the most and earned the Arena Football League Writers
Association (AFLWA) Player of the Week.
Davis scored seven touchdowns three different ways and compiled
302 all-purpose yards to lead the SaberCats to an 81-75 victory
over the Las Vegas Gladiators.
His performance was just a touch better than those Gladiators
quarterback Clint Dolezel and offensive specialist Marcus Nash.
Dolezel passed for 395 yards and tied the AFL record with 11 touchdowns,
and Nash caught 14 passes for 215 yards with six TDs.
Davis did it all, though. He caught 10 passes for 163 yards with
three touchdowns, picked up three other TDs on the ground, and returned
a kickoff 53 yards for a score. His 40-yard touchdown reception
with 48 seconds left provided the clinching score.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director. The association's website
