Rookie catches six touchdown passes in losing effort
GEORGIA'S LEE IS AFLWA
PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – The performance was in a losing effort, but was impressive enough that Georgia Force wide receiver/linebacker Derek Lee was named the Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA) Player of the Week.

Lee caught 11 passes for 148 yards with six touchdowns in the Force's 53-51 loss to the New York Dragons.

His final touchdown, a 6-yarder to convert a fourth down, put the Force ahead 51-50 with 3:58 left. New York won the game when kicker Rob Bironas made a 32-yard field goal with 13 seconds left.

Lee often has been overshadowed by another rookie on his own team. Troy Bergeron was the league's Rookie of the Month in February. However, Lee set the team record with five touchdown catches Feb. 25 against the Austin Wranglers, and then topped himself in this game. Maybe he will be the club's next Rookie of the Month.

The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is the AFLWA's founder and executive director. The association's website is www.aflwa.com.
