LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – Chicago Rush quarterback Raymond
Philyaw beat the Philadelphia Soul with his arm and his foot,
and for his effort he was named the Arena Football League Writers
Association (AFLWA) Player of the Week.
Philyaw threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two other
TDs in the Rush's 51-41 victory. He also completed 20 of 29 passes
for 177 yards with no interceptions. However, Philyaw was hard on
himself afterward.
"I'm satisfied that we got the win, but I can't say I'm totally
satisfied with my performance," he told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I
missed Russell (Shaw) on a couple of passes when I should have put
it in his hands. I've got to get back to just letting it go."
Philyaw faced a tough situation, though. The Rush's lineup had
been hit hard by injuries, and he still is coming back from a right
knee injury suffered last season. In fact, Philyaw is taking two
days off this week to rest the knee.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director. The association's website
is www.aflwa.com.
