LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – After beating the New Orleans VooDoo
68-34, the San Jose SaberCats became the unanimous No. 1
choice in the latest Top 8 Poll, as voted on by members of the
Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA).
San Jose (10-2) received all 19 first-place votes and 152 points
and remain atop the standings. New Orleans (9-3) did not fall, staying
No. 2 with 121 points. The Colorado Crush (9-4) remained No. 3 with
116 points after defeating the Philadelphia Soul 58-40.
The No. 4 Chicago Rush (8-4) and No. 5 Arizona Rattlers (8-5)
each moved up a spot. Chicago beat the Detroit Fury 57-40, and Arizona
was a 42-38 victor over the Los Angeles Avengers (7-5), who fell
two spots to No. 6.
Moving into the poll at the No. 7 were the New York Dragons (7-5).
They topped the Dallas Desperados 44-20.
The Austin Wranglers (7-5) dropped down a place to No. 8 despite
a 40-27 victory over the Grand Rapids Rampage. Falling from the
poll were the Orlando Predators (6-6), who slipped from No. 8 following
a 63-58 loss to the Tampa Bay Storm.
San Jose is at Arizona in this week's only game between ranked
teams. Other games involving ranked teams include Orlando at New
Orleans, Chicago at Grand Rapids (1-11), Los Angeles at Tampa Bay
(6-7), the Carolina Cobras (4-8) at New York, and Dallas (6-6) at
Austin. Colorado is off.
