LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – Voters did not punish the Chicago
Rush much, but the top two positions were solidified in the latest
Top 8 Poll, conducted by the Arena Football League Writers Association
(AFLWA).
The San Jose SaberCats (6-1) and New Orleans VooDoo (7-1)
remained Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, and collected every first-place
vote. San Jose, which defeated Los Angeles 55-52 to drop the Avengers
(4-3) three spots to No. 7, received 12 first-place votes and 138
points. New Orleans, a 48-31 winner over the Carolina Cobras, picked
up six first-place votes and 132 points.
The Colorado Crush (6-2) advanced two spots to No. 3 after its
54-46 victory over the Arizona Rattlers. Despite a 72-71 loss to
the Detroit Fury, Chicago (5-2) fell just one place to No. 4.
Tied at No. 5 were the Austin Wranglers and Dallas Desperados,
each 5-2. Austin beat the Philadelphia Soul 65-60 to move up two
spots, and Dallas went up one place after having the week off.
Once again, the New York Dragons (4-3) were No. 8. They were
off last week.
Austin is at Los Angeles in the only game this week between ranked
teams. Other games involving ranked teams include San Jose at the
Tampa Bay Storm (3-5), the Indiana Firebirds (3-5) at Colorado,
Chicago at the Las Vegas Gladiators (3-5), Dallas at Philadelphia
(3-5) and New York at Carolina (3-5). New Orleans is off.
