LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – Quarterback John Fitzgerald's
clutch play for the New Orleans VooDoo earned him Player of the
Week, as selected by the board of the Arena Football League Writers
Association (AFLWA).
Fitzgerald threw seven touchdown passes, including a 14-yarder
to wide receiver/defensive back Calvin Spears with 19 seconds left,
to lift the VooDoo to a 63-59 victory over the Austin Wranglers.
New Orleans trailed by 11 points with about four minutes left.
The victory improved the VooDoo to 9-2, allowing New Orleans
to keep pace with the San Jose SaberCats for the best overall record.
Fitzgerald completed 24 of 38 passes for 298 yards.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director.
