LAS VEGAS (AFLWA) – After helping stun the defending league
champion Friday, Georgia Force offensive specialist Markeith
Cooper was named the Player of the Week by the board members
of the Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA).
Cooper set a club record with 270 all-purpose yards in the Force's
70-62 victory at the Tampa Bay Storm.
His 55-yard kickoff return shortly before halftime tied the score
at 35, and contributed to the 138 return yards he totaled. Cooper
also caught five passes for 132 yards with four touchdowns.
Largely because of Cooper, the Force improved to 1-1 and took
some of the sting off the opening 54-28 loss to the New York Dragons.
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the 2004 season, is a national
organization made up of media members who cover the Arena Football
League. Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is
the AFLWA's founder and executive director.
